Olde Barber Shoppe

$12.00

The Olde Barber Shoppe wax has been in the works for a little while, but got spurred on by a request by Matt Davis (@mustachedmrmatt on Instagram)  Matt had posted a question to several of us mustache wax makers about what product we would suggest that could hold up to the rigors of lap swimming.

In simple terms, lanolin contains lipids and oils that can be absorbed by the skin and hairs. Petroleum jelly is more like a sealant, so it will resist water/moisture. Because petroleum jelly resists water, and the challenge at hand to make something that would hold up to the rigors of lap swimming, I chose to make this wax with petroleum jelly.

The Olde Barber Shoppe wax has a fragrance oil in it that is described as such, “Powdery bay rum, sandalwood, and earthy patchouli make this fragrance smell just like Grandpa’s shaving cream.”

The wax ingredients are: Beeswax, Petroleum Jelly, Pine Rosin, Coconut Oil, and fragrance oil. (if you have skin irritation from the pine rosin, please discontinue use of the product)

As all my waxes that contain pine rosin, I tend to use less than most of the other “rosin waxes” out there in the market. The reason is because I prefer to have a wax that is tacky enough to do the job, but not so tacky that your fingers tend to stick to the mustache hairs while you are trying to style.

If you are looking for a wax that has high humidity resistance, still is workable if you comb through it to restyle, or want a wax that will last more than a day or two, this is the one for you.

Product image only shows the half ounce sized tin that was used during product testing. This wax will only be available as a 1oz size.
